Large 1840s Pennsylvania Fraktur
Large engraving printed in Allentown, Pennsylvania, hand coloured and filled in using sepia ink stating that Peter Schafer and his wife Susanna had a daughter in March 1847. This daughter was born in Moore township, Northampton in the state of Pennsylvania, North America. She was baptised and given the name Belinde on 4 May 1847 by Pastor Mensi. Pennsylvania German documents (such as birth and baptisimal certificates) that are illuminated with decorative motifs such as birds or scrolls are known as Fraktur. This piece was laid down on card and has a small tear to he lower left corner which does not extend into the border, as can be seen in the second to last photo.
